Jewellery Care Guide
Every piece of Cohavi jewellery is meticulously handcrafted to the highest standard, using only the finest quality metals and stones.
We want you to enjoy your Cohavi pieces for many years to come, so here are some simple steps to keep your jewellery looking like new.
Preventing Tarnish
Silver and gold can tarnish if left in their packaging for long periods. When you first open your jewellery box, you’ll notice your pieces are stored in small, airtight bags with a black anti-tarnish tab. This protects the jewellery from moisture during transit. Keep your jewellery in these bags until you’re ready to wear it.
Once worn, the natural oils in your skin coat the gold or silver surface, helping prevent tarnish. Tarnish usually occurs when jewellery isn’t being worn. Avoid leaving gold or silver pieces in the box for long periods, as moisture in stagnant air encourages tarnish. It’s best to hang necklaces and bracelets when not worn, which also prevents tangling and knots while slowing tarnish development.
How to Wear Your Jewellery
Take extra care with delicate necklaces, as they can catch on clothing or handbag straps. Jewellery should be put on last when dressing and removed first.
You can wear your jewellery to bed, but be mindful with fine chains to avoid snagging on sheets or pillowcases.
We recommend removing jewellery when swimming, bathing, or engaging in vigorous exercise to reduce tarnishing and wear. Never wear silver jewellery in swimming pools or spas—chlorine reacts with silver, causing a dull, slightly green patina.
Extra care is required with pearls. Avoid water exposure by removing earrings, necklaces, and bracelets before showering or swimming. Chemicals and water can permanently damage pearls, and small drilled pearls on necklaces or bracelets may slowly dissolve if frequently worn in water.
Maintaining Your Jewellery
All Cohavi jewellery comes with a branded gold or silver polishing cloth. If tarnish develops, gently rub your pieces with this cloth to restore their original shine. Fine chains can also be pinched and pulled through the cloth to remove tarnish.
